The Board of Directors is comprised of five elected community members who have extensive experience in the public sector as fire service, emergency medical service or public works leaders. The Board guides the District using sound leadership principles, fiscally responsible policies, and a compassionate sensibility to the needs of the community. The Board’s vision and values are carried out by District staff who are empowered partners in the Fire and Life Safety System.
The Board of Directors works diligently to meet the needs of Novato citizens, takes on the challenges of a changing workforce, rising costs of equipment, supplies and training, adherence to complex protocols and standards, increased public expectations, declining revenues, and competition for public sector funds.
The Board employs creative and effective policies often in conjunction with other county and city agencies to best serve all of our communities. The Board of Directors, in a close partnership with the Fire Chief, works to identify and prioritize the various strategies of the fire protection and medical transport system of the District.
The Board holds its regularly scheduled meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. The meetings are held at the Novato Fire District, Fire Station 1, located at 7025 Redwood Blvd.
Special meetings are sometimes held for the purpose of addressing specific issues such as approval of the District final budget. The Board of Directors meeting schedule can be found here.
